Frequently Asked Questions

Shopping for your dream wedding dress can be extremely daunting. We know escatly how it feels, having been there ourselves and it can seem like an enormous task. We however see it first hand every day and are used to it.  It is our job to make you feel at ease, relaxed and comfortable.

Don’t ever be afraid to ask a question. There is no such thing as a silly question, we are here to help and guide you throughout the entire experience of buying the most important dress of your life!

To help you further, before you book an appointment with us, we have created a list of the most common questions that we face, but if you still have any others then please do get in touch with us.

FAQs

Do I need to book an appoinment?

Yes. We always see our brides by appointment only so that you have the best experience with us and we can dedicate our time to you. We also ensure that you have exclusive use of the boutique, so we can work with you to find your dream dress, without interruptions. This does limit the amount of brides we can see per day, therefore it is unlikely that we will be able to accommodate you without booking ahead of time.

Do you charge for appointments?

Yes! You can opt to stay within the free tier for as long as you want to. It’s a great way to get a feel for the platform before deciding to upgrade to take advantage of the more advanced features. See our Appointments page for further information.

How long do appointments last?

Your first visit to us will be for 1 hour and 30 mins where we will guide your through our collections, help you find your style and finalise your shortlist.

Follow up appointments will last for 1 hour, allowing you to re try your favorites and get you one step closer to finding ‘the one’.

How many guests can I bring to the appointment?

We recommend that you bring two guests per bride.   Our shop is a small and intimate space where you can share this experience with your nearest & dearest, and in our experience when you bring more guests it can be very overwhelming for you, the bride.

We know how exciting this time is for your friends and family, and we do understand that you want to share this experience with everyone, however we do recommend that you only bring those who have your best interests at heart, and will be helpful and honest with you.

What do I need to wear/bring with me?

We would advise you to wear nude seamless underwear if possible so that there is no distraction of seeing underwear under our dresses. Although we are very used to seeing black lace underwear as its often something that brides forget when they are getting ready to visit us for an appointment!

Other than that, just come ready to have some fun!

What happens if I don't fit into the sample dresses?

The sample dresses we have in store range from designer size 12 to size 16, albeit the majority of them are size 12’s.

Here at The Bride, we specialise in made to measure dresses, this means that the dresses are made to order using your exact measurements.  Therefore our sample dresses are used as ‘Templates’ –  examples of what your dress will look like.  You may love the dress as is, or you may want to change elements to make the dress truly unique to you –  this could mean you add sleeves, change the neckline, or combine 2 different dress styles – everything is possible.

We don’t like to focus on high street dress sizes, as designer dresses are structured very differently.  What we care about most is creating the dress that is perfect for you. All bodies are different and we know that it is unlikely a sample size will fit a body perfectly.  With the different fitting services that we offer, we can ensure that you will feel truly wonderful (and comfortable) on your wedding day.

How many dresses can I try on?

We don’t like to limit how many dresses you can try during your appointment time, it’s all about taking you on a journey to find the right style for you.

Once we have had an initial discussion about what you are looking for, together with your stylist you can browse our collections at your own pace and once you’ve selected, we will assist you in trying them on.

It is likely by the end of the appointment you will have a feel for the style you are looking for and will have a shortlisted a few favorites.  However, if you feel like you need to try on more, we can happily book you in for a follow up appointment to continue your search for the perfect gown.

What are the prices of your wedding dresses?

Our designer collections range from £2,000 up to £5,500 with the majority of them between £2,500 and £3,500. If you would like to view prices of specific dresses, you can do this by visiting the individual designer pages on our site.

We also have a number of ex-display samples available to purchase which are often significantly reduced in price. Dresses will be added to our sample sale throughout the year and these can be viewed on the sample page.

Do I need an appointment to view accessories?

Yes, we run by appointment only and this also includes accessories. In order to give you the best experience and our full attention we do need appointments to be booked in advance.

Do you offer in house alterations?

Yes, we are really proud to offer all brides an in-house alterations service.  We know how important it is to have a beautifully fitting dress and we pride ourselves on making this a reality.  You aren’t obliged to use our service however if you do, we can guarantee you will be in good hands with our experienced team of seamstresses and fitters.

Alterations are not included in the purchase price of the dress. We offer three different fitting packages, and we will be able to advise on the service best for you which all depends on the dress you select, and the level of customisation needed.  We can talk through all these packages during your appointments.

Do you have parking available?

We love our location on George Street; it’s one of the oldest roads in the city, full of independent shops and a stones throw from the stunning St Albans Cathedral. The road has also recently been pedestrianised to make it safer for everyone to enjoy.

Therefore there is no parking directly outside of our shop.  There are multiple car parks located within the city centre, and the nearest one to us is only a five minute walk away – St Christopher’s Place, Upper Dagnall Street, AL3 5EA.
